Wood

Wood is a natural, porous material and is affected by changes in humidity. When exposed to humid environments wood will expand, and when exposed to heat or dry environments the wood will shrink and crack.

Wood furniture should never be placed close to heating or cooling sources, such as vents, radiators, fireplaces and air-conditioners, as the changes can cause the wood to crack.

For optimal results use a humidifier to manage the seasonal changes in humidity.

Wood furniture should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Exposure to sunlight will affect the color of wood even if the wood is stained or painted.

Small scratches and chips can easily be touched up with a furniture repair marker.

Heat can scorch wood and leave discoloration. Hot dishes should not come in direct contact with wood furniture and should be placed on a trivet. Electronics should not sit directly on wood furniture without space to “breath”, the exposure to constant heat can also discolor the surface.

Many decorative objects and dishware are rough or unfinished on the bottoms and can scratch wood. The use of coasters, placemats and protective felt tabs are recommended to avoid rings and prevent surface scratches.

Furniture should be positioned on a level surface to ensure doors hang correctly and open smoothly. Due to humidity changes drawer movement, may seem a little stiff; rub candle wax on either side of the drawers to ease the movement. Periodically re-tighten nuts, bolts and knobs.

Always lift your furniture when moving it as dragging may cause damage to legs and joints and can scratch your floor surfaces. Felt tabs are recommended on all feet of wood furniture.

Spills and sticky spots should be cleaned up with a clean cloth and water. Wring the soft clean cloth until it is nearly dry before it encounters the surface and wipe the area. Once the spill if cleaned make sure surface is completely dry. Moisture should never be allowed to stand on wood

Fabric

Rotate cushions and pillows regularly to distribute wear and increase longevity.

Dust and dirt cause fabric to wear faster. We recommend vacuuming fabric regularly using the upholstery attachment and crevice tool of your vacuum.

Periodic cleaning by a professional upholstery cleaning service is the recommended cleaning method for your fabric. Annual cleaning is suggested, but this may vary depending on use. Never dry clean or machine wash cushion covers as it will likely damage the fabric, backing or stitching.

Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight. Exposure to sunlight will fade the fabric. Dark fabrics and fabrics with a high natural fiber content are most susceptible to fading.

Take special care when spraying household chemicals and commercial products near fabric as these may damage, stain or fade fabrics.

Applying scented fabric fresheners, neutralizers and fabric protectors is never recommended.

Prevent Velcro and sharp objects such as rings or buckles from coming into contact with your fabric as they may cause pulling or tearing.

Always blot—never rub—spills immediately with a clean, absorbent white cloth.

It is recommended to have all stains professionally cleaned by an upholstery cleaning service to ensure best results.

Pilling is known as loose strands or balls of fiber that form on the face of a piece of fabric due to friction. It is important to note that pilling is not a fabric defect or fault and is not covered under warranty. Pilling is a normal occurrence caused by wear and tear and does not affect the durability or functionality of the fabric. It is easily removable.

Use a battery-operated pill shaver to remedy the situation, which are available in most sewing stores. If pilling reoccurs, it can simply be shaved off again. This may occur several times, but the pilling will diminish and eventually cease once the excess fibers are removed.

Some of our furniture is filled with feathers and down. Much like down comforters or pillows, the pillows and cushions need to be fluffed frequently to restore their loft. Some feather loss is normal. Unzipping the cushion covers and vacuuming with an upholstery attachment between the covers and cushions will help to prevent feathers from poking through the fabric.

Stone

Your stone tops will require some care and maintenance in order to maintain their luxurious look. Normal good housekeeping practices should be applied, such as immediately removing spills of any type and discretionary use of coasters and placemats

Stone tops should be wiped clean after each use and spot cleaned as necessary. It is suggested to use cleaners specifically formulated for natural stone. The use of glass and window cleaners are not an acceptable method for caring for marble countertops. Cleaners other than dedicated natural stones cleaners will mar the surface resulting in a cloudy dull, appearance.

Marble tops should be sealed twice a year using twice a year. Sealers we recommend are 511 Porous Plus and DuPont StoneTech BulletProof. Quartz tops do not need to be sealed.

Leather

Rotate cushions and pillows regularly to distribute wear and increase longevity.

Clean leather periodically with a dry cloth to remove dust and prevent dirt buildup.

Use of a leather conditioner every season will moisturize the leather and create a barrier that will protect it from natural oils from skin.

Leather furniture should be protected from exposure to sunlight as well as temperature extremes, otherwise it will fade and dry, resulting in a breakdown of its protective finishes. Use of a humidifier is recommended.

Blot liquid spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. For stubborn stains and spills, use a cloth lightly dampened with warm water to blot the stain and remove it. If this does not work, mix mild soap with water, then blot to release the stain and blot again with a dry cloth (avoid scrubbing).

Leather is a natural product and it ages. Also, it absorbs the traces of life around it, such as the natural body oils that your body produces, water, moisture, conditioner, dirt, dust, sunlight, and heat. Over time, it develops a sheen in some places, while some spots may see a relative darkening. The scratches and scrapes that gather on the surface are also an integral part of the patina.

Some of our leather furniture is filled with feather and down. Much like down comforters or pillows, the pillows and cushions need to be fluffed frequently to restore their loft. Some feather loss is normal. Unzipping the cushion covers and vacuuming with an upholstery attachment between the covers and cushions will help to prevent feathers from poking through the fabric.
